So many artists were taught to keep an open tin of solvents next to their palettes to dip and wipe their brushes between each color change. But why? The literature is murky to at best and misinformation was passed down from one manuscript to another until it stuck. Thankfully, modern science shined its burning light onto the truth, that you don't need solvents to paint with oil.
